Design a voice

Describe a voice in your own words, such as "a warm, deep British narrator, calm and measured", and VoxStudio creates new voices to match. It blends its built-in voices, so the result is something new rather than a stock voice.

Before you start

Design uses Kokoro. The first time, VoxStudio also needs to analyze its voices, which takes about a minute and only happens once. Click Analyze voices and watch it listen to each one.

1. Describe

Type into the large box, or click one of the examples. Underneath, Understood: shows how your words were read: for example Female, British, Warm, Unhurried.

Words that work well:

• Who: woman / man, young, British / American
• Sound: deep or light · warm, soft, rich or crisp, clear, bright
• Mood: calm, measured, soothing or energetic, lively, upbeat
• Pace: slow, unhurried or quick, brisk

2. Listen to the candidates

Four candidates appear: Voice A–D. Each shows its match percentage and bars for depth, warmth and energy. Click Listen to hear it say the preview line. You can change the preview line in the box above the candidates.

Click a card to select it.

3. Fine-tune by ear

Use the Fine-tune sliders:

• Depth, Warmth, Energy: moving one overrides what the description said, and new candidates appear instantly.
• Pace: how fast the voice speaks.

Reset returns the sliders to your description.

4. Save

Name your voice and click Save voice. It appears:

• under Your designed voices at the bottom of this page, where you can play, use or delete it
• in Voices, with a Designed badge
• in Studio, under Your voices when Kokoro is selected

Tips

• Be specific about what you care about most. If you only say "calm", only energy is targeted.
• Your pace is saved with the voice, so Studio's Pace slider adjusts it further.
• Design covers English (American and British) for now.
