Dictation

Type with your voice in any app: email, notes, chat, your code editor.

Use it

  1. Click where you want the text to go, in any app.
  2. Press ⇧⌘Space (Shift-Command-Space). A small pill appears at the bottom of your screen, and its orb moves with your voice.
  3. Speak.
  4. Press ⇧⌘Space again to finish, or simply stop talking: after about two seconds it finishes on its own.

Your words are typed where your cursor is. Press Esc or ✕ to cancel without typing anything.

You can also start dictation from the VoxStudio menu-bar icon → Start dictation.

Let VoxStudio type for you (macOS)

To type into other apps, macOS needs you to allow VoxStudio in Accessibility:

  1. Open Settings → Dictation in VoxStudio.
  2. Click Grant access. System Settings opens at Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
  3. Turn on VoxStudio.

Until then, dictation still works: your words are copied, and the pill says Copied — press ⌘V to paste.

VoxStudio types by pasting, and it puts back whatever was on your clipboard a moment later, so your clipboard is left as you had it.

Setting What it does
Shortcut Click it, then press a new combination (at least one of ⌘ ⌥ ⌃ ⇧ plus a key).
Paste automatically Off: your words are only copied.
Finish after a pause Off: dictation keeps listening until you press the shortcut again.
Language Detect automatically, or fix it to your language for better accuracy.
Try it Opens the pill right away.

Privacy

Dictation runs entirely on your computer with Whisper. Nothing is sent anywhere, and dictated text isn't saved as a transcript.
